Wednesday Nights (During the School Year) – 6:40 – 8:15 PM The beginning of the 2007 - 2008 school year marks the beginning of Marshall's 18th year of Awana. Games, team competition, weekly prizes, Bible study, music, and outings are held for boys and girls three years of age through high school. The program is held each Wednesday from 6:40-8:15 p.m.: Cubbies for three- and four-year-old boys and girls; Sparks for kindergarten through second grade boys and girls; Pals for third and fourth grade boys; Chums for third and fourth grade girls; Pioneers for fifth and sixth grade boys; Guards for fifth and sixth grade girls; Trek for seventh and eighth grade guys and girls; and Journey 24/7 for high school guys and girls. Weekly Awana Club meetings begin with a flag ceremony, followed by an exciting game period. Handbook Time allows personal clubber-leader interaction as young people study and achieve in Bible study/Memorization and Activities. Council Time includes songs, announcements, awards, and stories. The high school Journey 24/7 group, features an emphasis on training youth for leadership responsibilities. Weekly Bible studies, sports, and other activities offer variety and interest to all teens. Rick Salley, Commander of the Awana Club program, emphasizes, "All young people of the community are invited. For additional information, call the church office, 595-6235." Special events open to club members will be held all during the year. Last year's events included a Camp-Out, competition in the annual Awana Grand Prix, holiday specials, and the year-end Awana Store/Carnival. The Marshall Baptist Church Awana Clubs are part of Awana Clubs International, a nondenominational, Christian youth organization headquartered in Streamwood, IL. Awana Clubs International sponsors clubs in local churches around the world. The purpose of the clubs is to encourage young people in social interaction, physical activities, and Bible study and memorization. Using a unique concept of four-team competition, variety in club programming, and a progressive system of achievements contribute to accomplishment of these goals for each clubber. The Awana program also offers uniform awards and trophies as clubbers reach successive plateaus of achievement. The name Awana is an acrostic derived from the first letters of the scriptural reminder that "Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed" (II Tim. 2:15). |
