We
look forward each year to our Homecoming Service, when a poem written by
two of our members detailing the year's events is read. It is
always a special treat to be reminded of the special times we have
shared together during the past 12 months.
Welcome to our Homecoming - year 125
We give thanks to God for keeping our Church alive.
The Lord has blessed us with new members this year.
Some, we filled up the pool and Baptized right here.
They were Carol & Cameron Poss, Dalton Long, Elizabeth & Hannah
Welch, Holly Goudard, Randall Nowill, Fran Whittle and Jeff
Valentine.
Then there was Lisa James, Brandon Gautreaux, Allyson Snyder,
Janet Bright, Anna Newsome, Chris and Penny Smith, Joshua
Hayes, Austin Hixenbaugh, Eric Colrud and Randel Medina - Bet
you thought we couldn’t make all that rhyme.
Also added by Statement or Transfer of Letter -
Were Rev. Grover Lloyd, Jeff & Melissa Welch, Sandra Dumas,
Leonard James and Lokey Rabun - This just gets better and better.
We still need to baptize Mirranda Medina and Brandon Spivey - two
more.
And of our Church Family Members who have gone to be with our Lord
this year there were four.
Larry Montgomery, Ruth Morris, Bessie Mathews and Angie Ashcraft
Williams are with our Savior up above.
Let us remember each of them with a Christian Familiy’s love.

About Marshall’s history, Mrs. Jewel and Mrs. Rosanne had lots to
say.
Youth VBS was held July 27 & 28
They were two very full days, but they were great.
July 29th was Prove the Tithe Day
Encouraging all to give - for God’s work to pay.
In the homes of the Prater’s and the Reville’s for prayer we
did meet
On Aug. 2nd & 9th and the fellowship was sweet.
August 10th - 12th we had a Kick-Off Weekend -
A great revival our Lord to send.
On Sunday Night a FAITH Banquet was held
Many new leaders and learners signed up - which was swell.
A new FAITH Semester began on August Nineteen
Eight FAITH teams around our community the Gospel message did
bring.
On August 25th the Church-Wide Picnic at Cherokee was lots of fun.
With eating, skiing, boat-riding, swimming & even a mini-diving
lesson for some one.
On August 29th AWANA began a New Year - our 12th I do believe
And on September 8th for our new AWANA leaders, Basic Training was
a breeze.
Our Youth had breakfast here on September Nine
Enjoying food and fellowship before Sunday School time.
For AWANA Spirit Night kids dressed in blues, greens, yellows and
reds
Some of them even colored their heads.
Before Sunday School on September 16th the teachers met in the
Fellowship Hall
Breakfast and ideas from Leadership Conference was shared with all.
September 29th was See You At the Pole Day
At schools all over the country - people met to pray.
There was a class meeting on September 20th for Ladies II
And Youth Fall Classic was September 21 & 22
WOM had a Retreat at Mistletoe on September 28 & 29
The food, fellowship, studying and exercise was fine.
AWANA on October 3rd was quite a sight
For it was once again Country Bumpkin Night
On October 6th to Trinity Baptist some of our AWANA Leaders did go
Because more about AWANA they wanted to know.
On October 12th there was snoring heard at the Chums Slumber Party
- I understand
Was it one of the girls or Mary - or Cheryl - or Jan.
Our rice bowls full of change back to church we did bring
On World Hunger Sunday, October Fourteen
Then there was lots of pink seen the very next night
When we had a baby shower for Janet Bright
The Youth went canoeing in the Augusta Canal on October Seventeen
Several very wet youth were seen.
On October 26th an AWANA Skating Party was had
Because the Clubbers had brought visitors like mad.
On October 27th the Keenagers made their yearly mountain trip
Because that’s something they just don’t skip.
To the Penna’s that night went the Coed I Class
For a bonfire at which they had a blast.
Lots of Bible Characters were seen at our Festival of Fall
And for candy Bible Verses they had to recall.
On November 3rd the Sparks went to Mistletoe for a picnic and a
nature hike
It was fun for the Adults and kids alike.
That night the youth to Judgement House went
Seeing where souls of the lost are sent.
But wait with November 3rd we’re not quite through
There was a bonfire at the Prater’s that night for Coed II
On November 7th a bunch of Commander’s Credits were spent
As the AWANA Clubbers to the 1st Commander’s Corner went.
On November 17th we had our Communion Service & Thanksgiving
Meal
And on the 21st the youth cooked for a needy family with zeal.
Soon great tidings of joy were heard
For Abigail Nicole Bright was born October 23rd.
Then in came the ladders and wreaths and things
Because on December 2nd we had the Hanging-Of-The- Greens.
That was the beginning of our Advent Season
Celebrating Christ’s birth is, of course, the reason.
Ladies II for their Christmas party to Outriggers went
They had a good time as time together they spent.
The youth went to the Mall of Georgia on December eight
Our Youth leaders are really great.
Emphasis was placed on FAITH & Foreign Missions on December
nine
Praying for the Gospel to be shared with all mankind.
December 14th the Chums went on a shopping spree
It was great - they all agree.
Men II went that night to Golden Corrall to eat
That was their Christmas Party treat.
December 15th was party time for the Class I & II Coed -
That was also the day Amy and Punker Robinette were wed.
We had a Christmas Cantata on the 16th of December
Jesus’ birth to celebrate and remember.
Sparks Clubbers the right to go on the Carol-A-Rama, on Dec. 17th,
had to earn
At least 12 Sections in their books they had to learn.
At the Children’s Christmas Party they sang Happy Birthday to
Jesus and ate cake
But first an ornament with “John 3:16” they did make.
December 29, WOM met to wrap gifts for needy girls and boys
Thanks to donations made at our Wednesday Night Suppers - 15 kids
got clothing and toys.
On December 23rd we took up offering for Lottie Moon
To help International Missionaries have what they need to do God’s
work soon
We had a Candlelight Communion Service on Christmas Eve
Held hands and sang before we did leave.
To Evangelism Conference in Macon on December 28th and 29th our
youth did go
More about our Lord to get to know.
New Year’s Eve we came together to celebrate
We played games, prayed and - of course we ate.
We started out 2002 with a FAITH Banquet and Rev. Ellis Moore was
here to inspire us to go out - many new souls to our Lord to win
Then on the 13th - six teams another Semester of FAITH Training did
begin.
On the 19th some of our folks met for volleyball and other games
They each agreed that they were glad they came
Jan. 20th our members came, more about the Sanctity of Human Life
to know
Then of 25th - 27th our youth and some adults went skiing in the
snow.
Some of our ladies came to make new curtains on February two
And that night our Coed Classes met to eat sea food.
AWANA Chums met for a Valentine Party on Feb. nine
They all had a wonderful time.
On the 15th the youth entertained at the Valentine Banquet - The
Beverly Hillbillies Family Reunion - Wee Doggies Ya’ll
With great steaks, a mountain cabin and youth waiting tables in
overalls.
The Women On Mission attended the Spring Inspirational Meeting on
Feb. eighteen
On Feb 23rd lots of our people came our Buildings and Grounds to
clean.
On February 24th we had a really special day
Because to Bruce - Thank You - for fifteen years as our Minister of
Music and Youth we wanted to say.
On March 3rd at our North American Prayer Emphasis for our
Missionaries we did pray
Then on the 13th our AWANA turned Green in lots of creative ways.
On the 14th we brought clothes of blue and other things too
Penny Smith’s Baby son soon would be due
And on the very same day the Lord blessed Cynthia and Trevon
Wheeless with the birth of Nathaniel Chase
You should have seen the smile on big Sister August’s face.
A group went to the Atlanta Passion Play on March sixteen
It always helps you feel more certainly what Easter really means.
The 20th Chris and Penny Smith were blessed with the birth of
Dalton James, a beautiful baby boy
And on that same day Patty gave birth to Cynthia Louise McCoy
On the 23rd Mr. Randy Hayes & his helpers set up the track in
the gym for cars of every shape and hue
35 AWANA Clubbers were judged for design and speed, too.
The choir presented an Easter Cantata on March Twenty-four
Thinking about what our Savior did for us - makes us just love Him
all the more.
On the 30th lots of boys and girls were seen running around
Heard the Easter Story and Lots of Eggs were found
Then on the 31st at the Rising of the sun
We met to celebrate the resurrection of the Lord’s chosen one.
Then the Men's Ministry served Easter Breakfast in Fellowship Hall
And our Deacons served Communion to one and all.
Later that morning we all came for Easter Worship and Sunday School
Because we know that in Heaven our Lord Jesus rules.
Youth went to Augusta one day during spring break
To see how many times hitting the ball in the holes would take.
Then on April 20th the Chums had a very, very busy day
It was Putt-Putt - they also went to play.
Kilpatrick Baptist Association’s VBS Clinic was filled with ideas
anew.
Some were even taught by our own Kathy Drew.
On April 21st a Gideon came to our church to speak
About how getting God’s Word to everyone is what they seek.
April 24th was AWANA’s Silly Hair Night
You just had to be there to believe that sight.
For the Brio Mission Trip to Ecuador, Amanda and Randall needed
bucks soon
So we had a meal for donations on April 28th - shortly after noon.
A baby shower for Cynthia Wheeless on April 29th we finally had
For Nathaniel Chase - their new little lad.
A luncheon for Mother’s we had on May four
Sandra had decorated the Fellowship Hall with hats galore
A poem was read about the many hats that moms wear
And Susan Lamb, our speaker, talked about how she found out that
God does really care.
That night to a Bridal Shower many gifts were brought with glee
It was the shower for the Salley’s Pence Marie.
Willie Hunter spoke to our church on May 5
About how the works of preachers in Africa sponsored by some us
thrive.
Then a reception we had for the Hunters who were moving away
They will be missed in AWANA more than we could ever say.
On May 8th at AWANA Awards Night the Clubbers received ribbons,
bucks, plaques and pins
But most importantly during the AWANA year is that they learned God
sent His Son to die for their sins.
Then on May 11th at Wisteria Hills Plantation was Penny & King’s
marriage.
Penny came and they left in a horse drawn carriage.
At the AWANA Carnival on May 15th the Clubbers their AWANA bucks
spent.
And the next night to a Bridal Shower for Tosha Mauck we went.
On May 17th at the church was a sleep-over once again.
One last get together before summer for Chums friends.
May 19th Graduation Recognition we had
To let Holly, Ashley and Clint know for their accomplishments we
are glad.
A vespers service was held to celebrate Memorial Day
And for our Tennessee Mission Trip to pray.
On May 31st from the parking lot our mission team departed
Their adventure to Benton, Tennessee had just started.
Lots of fish the Men's Ministry cooked on July eight
We were sad about saying good-bye to our good friends John &
Patsy Poss - but the food was great.
FAITH Recognition was on June nine
Six teams had spent Sunday afternoons witnessing for the Lord this
time.
Clint Borders and Tosha Mauck got married here on Saturday, June
fifteen
And we think Tosha was just about the most beautiful Bride we’ve
ever seen.
Our Fathers were recognized on the 16th - Father’s Day
Also, on that day three mothers came to say

Chase Wheeless and Hannah & Abigail Nichole

Would be raised in the Lord’s sight
The VBS Musical was June 23rd - on Sunday night
Our Youth, Children’s Choir and some of our adults brought a
message in music and drama to start Amazon Outfitters off just right.
For a week Marshall turned to a Rain Forest with lots of trees,
vines, insects and monkeys, too
And we went on Expedition with our God the One who is always true.
And to bring the week to a perfect end
On Saturday we met to have a Picnic and play games with all our
friends.
On June 30th we met lots of slides to see
Of the Backyard Bible Club, Worship Services, Outreach Projects and
Home Renovations our Mission Team Worked on in Tennessee.
We had Prayer for Amanda and Randall - Commissioned them for the
Mission Trip to Ecuador
Then ate lots of watermelon - until we could hold no more.
Mission Thomson was July 7 - ten
Bruce and Kenan helped paint homes in Thomson and participated in
rallies - where they worshipped with old and new Christian friends.
On Wednesday July 10th we met especially for Katelyn McTier to pray
PRAISE THE LORD - for answering our prayers in such a wonderful
way.
Just last Saturday the Keenagers went to Raley’s - lots of fish
they did eat
And on Friday the 19th our Children’s II Girls went to August to
bowl & have lots of fun - what a treat!
Yesterday some of our folks met our buildings and grounds to clean
Thanks to all those who helped yesterday & each week to make
Marshall Church gleam
And that brings us back to this 125th Homecoming Day
We thank everyone who came to help us celebrate by Worshipping the
Lord in this special way.
We thank the Lord for those He’s sent to Marshall through the
years to serve Him and worship Him - Him to adore.
We ask His blessings for 125 years more!
