Special Events

At various times during the year, our Church Family at Marshall gathers together for fellowship in the form of special celebrations.  It could be argued that these are some of the best times to get a sense of what a close family we all really are.  We love to have fun together, and we'd love to have you join us!

In July we celebrate the Anniversary of the founding of our Church through our Homecoming Service and activities.  Former members who have moved on to minister in other congregations return.  We enjoy Dinner on the Grounds and then return to the Sanctuary, where gospel groups lead a worship service of music and praise.  A new Homecoming Poem is written each year which reviews the activities and events at Marshall since the last Homecoming celebration. In 2002 we celebrated our 125th year with an Old-Fashioned Homecoming.

In late October or early November, we hold a Fall Festival.  Activities have included a Chili Cook-off, Cake Baking Contest, Hot Dog Roast, Carnival Booths, Football or Softball games, Hay Rides, Marshamallow Roasting, Pinatas, Bonfires, and more.

At Christmas we celebrate our Savior's birth in a special way.  Our whole Church family participates in decorating our Sanctuary during our Hanging of the Greens service.  We worship the Lord in song and learn of the symbols of the season as they are explained in readings.  Poinsettias purchased by members in honor or in memory of loved ones are placed about the room by our children.  The youth lead the way during the most beautiful part of the service as light is passed from candle to candle among the congregation until they are all lit.  They are then raised to the ceiling, brightly lighting the whole room as we sing "Silent Night".  If you haven't ever visited with us for this special service, make plans to have this year be your first.  There is no better way to begin your holiday season.
